Lecture Series at UCCHosted by UCC's College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, a series of lectures will take place on Wednesday evenings until March 28th. New professorial staff at the college will each deliver a lecture from 5pm to 6pm

Tomorrow Prof Gwilym Beckerlegge presents Interculturalism - a New Challenge for the Study of Religions? in room G01, Brookfield Health and Sciences Complex. On Wednesday, March 21st Prof Fan Hong will give a lecture entitled The Physical Reconstruction of the Female Body and the Reconceptualisation of Femininity in China 1840-1949 in room G1, Kane Building.

All lectures are open to the public and admission is free.

Campaign for Commercial-Free Education MeetingThe Campaign for Commercial-Free Education will hold a workshop for teachers and parents concerned about commercial advertising in schools, in Sligo Education Centre tomorrow at 7.30pm.

The workshop will allow teachers and parents to examine and assess current schemes found within schools. Ways in which schools may respond to this growing trend will also be discussed.

The workshop will be facilitated by Joseph Fogarty, principal of a Sligo primary school and member of The Campaign for Commercial-Free Education. For further information e-mail: info@commercialfreeeducation.com.

Science and French Language Competition for Secondary School Students of FrenchSixteen- to 20-year-old secondary school students who study French and enjoy sciences (maths, applied maths, physics, biology, chemistry and earth sciences) may be interested in a French language competition initiated by the Cultural Service of the French embassy and promoted by the Department of Education and Science.

First and second prizes consist of a trip to Paris and the ÎIle-de-France region from July 9th to 19th. The prizes include return flights, accommodation, meals, transport, activities and insurance.

Interested students must write an 800-word essay in English on the topic "Why is science important for the future of mankind?" and a 200-word summary of the essay in French.

GMIT Castlebar Arts and Heritage WeekThis week is Arts and Heritage Week at GMIT Castlebar. An exhibition of early printed books from the 16th to 18th centuries and a recital featuring reconstructed Bronze Age horns and Iron Age trumpas are two highlights.

The recital will be given by members of Prehistoric Music Ireland. This year's programme also includes a Viking exhibition, film screenings, workshops, history talks, and visual art and historical exhibitions. All events are free.
