What school did you attend? Malahide Community School.
Had you any famous classmates? Sinead Boyle - she went on to become the Rose of Tralee. My RTÉ colleague Sharon Ni Bheolain was a couple of years behind me, I think.
Hidden talents at school? My religion teacher wrote in an end of year report that I was "prematurely cynical".
Best subject? History
Worst subject? Here's a clue: I took physics for two weeks in fifth year.
Most inspirational teacher and why? My history teacher, Frank Cleary. Taught me there is no question too stupid to ask and no assumption too safe to question.
Where did you go to college? Trinity College Dublin and Dublin City University.
What's your best memory of school? School trips.
What's your worst memory of school? Getting into trouble on school trips.
What song most reminds you of your school days? Too many; Town called Malice by The Jam, Alternative Ulster by Stiff Little Fingers and a Ska tune called Tom Hark by The Piranhas (the only tune I ever learned to play on the euphonium. . . but that's a story for another day).
