A man who drowned in a river in Wexford may have been involved in a robbery beforehand, it emerged today.

A man who drowned in a river in Wexford may have been involved in a robbery beforehand, it emerged today.

The body of the man was found in the River Slaney in Enniscorthy at 6am.

A Garda spokesman said officers were investigating a possible link between the man's death and an attempted robbery at the nearby Roadstone quarry.

The men involved fled after security was alerted and their getaway car was found abandoned near the river.

The body of the man has been taken to Wexford General Hospital where formal identification will take place.
