A drink-driver who was three times over the limit when he crashed into supporters waiting on a bridge over the Shannon to welcome home an All-Ireland winning hurling team is to serve five months in jail.

However, David Madden (29), a farmer from Lorrha in Co Tipperary who had a previous conviction for drink driving, will not begin his sentence until July when he returns from his honeymoon following his wedding next week.

He has been told to appear at Loughrea District Court on July 12th where a five months' prison term will be handed down, said Judge Reilly.
