Driver killed after car catches fire

A man in his late 20s was killed when the car he was driving hit a ditch and ignited, at Loughmore, Templemore, Co Tipperary. The accident happened at 1.45 a.m. yesterday. A Garda spokesman said the man was dead by the time an ambulance arrived. A 26-year-old motorcyclist, Mr Malcolm Fox, of St Joachim Terrace, Sligo, was killed when his bike was involved in a head-on collision with a car at Granard, Co Longford, just after midnight yesterday.

In Tubbercurry, Co Sligo, a cyclist was killed when a car collided with his bicycle at about 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. The dead man was named by gardai last night as Mr Christopher Benson, aged 40, a single farmer, from Tubber curry. There were four people in the car, two of whom were taken for treatment to Sligo General Hospital.

Also on Saturday, a 23-year-old man died in hospital in Naas from injuries he received in a collision a week earlier. Mr Vincent Finn, from Suncroft, near Kildare town, survived his first cousin, Anthony Quinn, who was killed when the car hit a wall at Frenchfurze Road, Kildare, at 2.30 a.m. on October 9th.

On Friday a young woman was killed when the car she was driving collided with another at Banagher, Co Offaly, at 4.45 p.m.
