The latest development of unrest in the Donegal camp came with today's news that the senior football panel issued a statement expressing its "dissatisfaction with the dismissal of Brian McIver as team manager last week".

McIver walked away from the senior football manager's post last week following a motion of no confidence during a recent meeting with the county board.

Today's joint statement added: "We believe the county board's actions were unfair and the manner of his (McIver) removal - through a vote of no confidence - left a lot to be desired. We would like to thank Brian sincerely for his efforts over the past three years - a period which was marked by the county's first ever National Football League title.

"Following Brian's removal, it is the squad's intention now to seek representation in the selection process for any future managerial appointments. We believe we can make a positive contribution in this regard by bringing our experience to the table.

"We will also be setting up a players committee to liaise regularly with the county board on all player-related issues with the aim of avoiding any future breakdowns in communication and to improve relations between both bodies.
