The trial of two detective gardaí accused of perjury during the 2001 trial of Colm Murphy, accused of involvement in the Omagh bombing, is expected to begin this morning at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Det Garda John Fahy (53), Glaslough, Co Monaghan, and Det Garda Liam Donnelly (50), Cavan, have pleaded not guilty to perjury, forgery and using a forged document. They are accused of falsely swearing under oath, between October 18th and November 15th, 2001, at the Special Criminal Court, that the notes of their interview with Mr Murphy on February 22nd, 1999, had not been rewritten and were accurate. They are further accused of forging notes of the interview and using a forged document at the trial.
