Derry made easy work of Kildare in their All-Ireland SFC second round qualifier as they ran out 1-17 to 0-11 winners at Celtic Park.

Johnny McBride was responsible for the game's only goal when he struck past Kildare keeper Enda Murphy. That goal would be the difference between the two sides at the interval as Derry led 1-07 to 0-07.

Elsewhere a 14-man Westmeath narrowly beat Limerick 0-13 to 1-09 at Cusack Park while Meath overpowered Roscommon 1-19 to 0-09 at Páirc Tailteann.

In the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Qualifiers Dublin were no match for Clare at Parnell Park as the visitors won 4-21 to 1-16. In Mullingar Laois beat Westmeath 2-10 to 1-09 while Limerick won a high scoring game 2-29 to 2-19 against Offaly in Tullamore.
