EA Sports Cup round-up:Derry City proved too strong for north-west rivals Finn Harps in the EA Sports Cup tonight as they won 2-0 at the Brandywell with goals from Emmet Friars and Mark Farren.

Derry, who have won the this competition nine times, went ahead just past the half hour when Friars latched on to a cross from Darren Coyle to head past Liam Mailey in the Harps net.

And three minutes before half-time they wrapped it up thanks to a fine individual effort from Farren.

Premier Division leaders St Patrick’s also won 2-0 at home to knock Bray Wanderers out of the competition.

They took the lead after 17 minutes when Bray goalkeeper Brian Kane’s clearance rebounded off Saints forward Vinny Faherty and into the net.

Pete Mahon’s side sealed victory the 68th minute when Dean Massey’s clearance was blocked down into the path of Gareth Coughlan, who lined up Alex Williams to fire home.

Gary Twigg scored the only goal of the game after 10 minutes as Shamrock Rovers beat UCD at Belfield Bowl, while goals from Ciaran McGuigan and Fahrudin Kudozovic helped Dundalk beat Sport Fingal 2-0 at Oriel Park.
