Fears are growing that 70 jobs may be lost at the Dell-owned subsidary Alienware's facility in Co Westmeath.

Fears are growing that 70 jobs may be lost at the Dell-owned subsidary Alienware's facility in Co Westmeath.

The company, which was acquired by Dell in 2006 for an undisclosed sum, is a manufacturer of high-end PC gaming desktop and notebook computers.

Alienware staff are believed to have received a memo earlier this week stating the company is to close its manufacturing plants in Athlone and Miami with operations transferring to Dell facilities in Poland.

Fine Gael Westmeath senator Nicky McFadden said the closure of the factory would have a terrible impact on the Cornamaddy/Athlone area.
