The trial of a Co Offaly man accused of causing the death of a 16-year-old boy by dangerous driving has collapsed at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Judge Dominic Lynch discharged the jury after hearing lengthy legal argument about evidence given in the trial.

Mr Patrick Spollen (37), of Molesworth House, Daingean, Co Offaly, had denied dangerous driving causing the death of Joseph Mulcahy on the N11 at Fassaroe, Bray, Co Wicklow, on June 23rd, 1997.

Judge Lynch said that the case would be mentioned again next Friday.
