A man and a teenager are due in court tomorrow following the attempted robbery of a shop in Ranelagh, Dublin.

Gardaí said two raiders yesterday entered a shop on Lower Mount Pleasant Avenue with their faces covered and carrying “what appeared to be a firearm”.

An off-duty garda followed the pair into the shop and confronted them. As he struggled with one of the raiders, he was attacked by the second. The two then fled in the direction of Mount Pleasant Square with the garda in pursuit.

They threw the firearm into a bush at Mount Pleasant Square as they ran and it was recovered and removed for technical examination.

A man in his 20s, was arrested following a struggle and the second escaped. However, gardaí at Terenure later arrested a juvenile in a follow-up operation.

The two suspects are due in court in Dublin tomorrow.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who was in the area of Mount Pleasant Avenue or Mount Pleasant Square yesterday evening between 6pm and 7pm to contact Rathmines Garda station.
