Underground bunker found during search of property where seizures were made

Two people have been arrested after gardaí seized more than €70,000 worth of cannabis in Co Galway.

On Tuesday, gardaí carried out a search of a property under warrant in Dunmore, Co Galway. During the search, they discovered an underground bunker at the premises.

Cannabis plants worth €52,800 and cannabis herb valued at €11,500 was seized during the operation.

A woman (60s) and man (30s) were arrested at the scene and detained at Galway divisional headquarters under section two of the Drug Trafficking Act 1996.

A follow-up search was carried out in Galway city later in the evening, and a further €6,000 in cannabis herb was discovered.

All of the drugs seized were to be sent for further analysis.

The search was conducted as part of Operation Tara, a national anti-drugs strategy that was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris last July.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels.

A Garda spokesman said investigations were ongoing.
