Suspected pipe bomb parts seized in Strabane search

One man arrested in Derry in connection with alleged dissident activity

Suspected pipe bomb components have been seized by PSNI officers investigating violent dissident republican activity.

The discovery was made during a search in the Fountain Street area of Strabane, Co Tyrone.

Supt Mark McEwan said the items had been taken away for forensic examination.

Earlier, police said one man had been arrested in connection with dissident activity.

The man (48), from Derry, was detained on Friday morning by detectives from the PSNI's Serious Crime Branch and taken to Musgrave police station in Belfast for questioning.

Detectives also carried out searches in Derry.
