Man arrested over serious assault in Galway

Victim (27) in serious condition at Beaumont Hospital after Tuam attack on Saturday

A man has been arrested in relation to an assault that has left another man in serious condition in hospital.

A 27-year-old man received serious head injuries in the attack on High Street in Tuam at about 2.30am on Saturday morning.

He was taken to University College Hospital Galway and then transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where his condition is described as serious, a Garda spokesman said.

A man in his 20s was arrested this afternoon in Tuam and is currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Tuam Garda station. He may be detained for up to 24 hours.
