Man arrested over assault on woman in Dublin 6

A man has been arrested by gardai in relation to an assault on a woman in Dublin 6 early this morning.

The 22-year-old woman was attacked from behind by a man and punched in the face shortly after 12.30am. The incident took place on Effra Road, Grosvenor Place in the Ranthgar/Rathmines area.

The woman is understood to have screamed for help and escaped. The attacker fled the scene.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution but her injuries are not believed to be serious, according to gardaí.

The man is being held at Terenure Garda station. Gardaí are continuing to investigate the incident.
