Man (52) due in court over 1987 Kilkenny widow murder

Ann Nancy Smyth (79) found dead in her home on Wolfe Tone Street

A man in his 50s is due to appear at a special sitting of Kilkenny District Court on Friday charged in relation to the murder of a woman in 1987.

Gardaí arrested the 52-year-old in Kilkenny city and brought him to Kilkenny Garda station where he was subsequently charged with murder.

Ann Nancy Smyth, a 79 year old widow living alone, was found dead at her home at 42A Wolfe Tone Street, Kilkenny on September 11th, 1987.

The man is currently detained at Kilkenny Garda station will appear at a special sitting of Kilkenny District court at Parliament Street, Kilkenny, at 9.30am on Friday.
