BRIEFS:The passing of the Mediation Bill should mark a sea-change in dispute resolution in Ireland.

Glencree, with 40 years of experience of conflict resolution, is offering a half-day seminar connecting conflict-resolution techniques with legal mediation on March 2nd in the Distillery Building, Church Street, Dublin 7 (9am-1pm).

Speakers will include Glencree’s Ian White, Geoffrey Corry, mediator and political dialogue facilitator, and Turlough O’Donnell SC.

Intellectual property

In a series of recent judgments on intellectual property, including C-162/10 Irish PPL and C-135/10 SCF, the Court of Justice of the EU has set out the scope of the communication to the public and performance right.

On February 20th at 5.30pm at Newman House, St Stephen’s Green, an expert panel will consider this topic.

New guide published

The Practitioner’s Personal Insolvency Handbook, a legal text written by barris- ter Tim Bracken, has been published by Clarus Press.

Designed for the legal practitioner, it gives an overview of debt collectionand procedure in relation to personal insolvency clients (€49). The text includes a chapter to deal with the particular procedure for each court.

The book explains how to enforce a judgment once obtained, how to register it as a judgment mortgage and how to ultimately obtain an order for sale of premises over which a judgment mortgage has been registered.

There is also a chapter on how to attach debts by garnishee order or appointment of a receiver by way of equitable executive.
