Four men believed to be from Kilkenny are in custody at the city’s garda station following an armed robbery at the post office in Urlingford on Monday.

Masked men entered the premises shortly before 12.30pm and threatened staff before making off with a quantity of cash.

It is believed that there was at least one customer present and that a glass panel was smashed with a hammer by the raiders.

The robbers then made off in a getaway car, which was then burned out and the gang transferred to a second vehicle.

Gardai intercepted a vehicle and arrested three men at Freshford.

A fourth suspect was subsequently arrested.

All four men are currently being detained and questioned at Kilkenny Garda Station.
