Drunk threatened bus driver with knife after missing stop

A drunk man who missed his stop on a Dublin bus used a kitchen knife to threaten the driver. Polish national Cezary Dziwulski was on his way home with a set of kitchen knives he had just purchased to prepare Christmas dinner.

Dziwulski, of Herberton Park, Rialto, pleaded guilty to unlawful production of a knife at Keeper Road, Crumlin, on December 22nd, 2011. Judge Martin Nolan suspended a prison term of 18 months after hearing that a European arrest warrant had been granted to Polish authorities.

Sinead Prunty, defending, told Dublin Circuit Criminal Court her client had fallen asleep and missed his stop, and when he woke up he did not know where he was.

Garda Paul Keville told Darragh Hayes, prosecuting, the bus driver pressed the panic button after the accused had pointed the knife at him. A bus company inspector told the driver to pull into the nearby Sundrive Road Garda station. The accused sat down again after hearing this.

Judge Nolan ordered the destruction of the knife pointed at the driver but said the other knives seized from Dziwulski on his arrest should be returned. "He might have some use for them when he goes back to Poland. "
