Crane drivers at Marine Terminals Ltd in Dublin port are to ballot on Monday on new shift working proposals that would extend opening hours dramatically. The terminal only operates five days a week.

In return for longer opening hours, the crane drivers are being offered an increase in basic pay from £300 as week to £400.

The protracted negotiations on the proposed deal have aggravated the growing congestion problems in Dublin port.
