An inquest jury recommended yesterday that county councils should provide safe lay-bys for trucks, whose drivers must stop for set rest periods under EU regulations.

Dublin City Coroners Court heard how Mr John Paul O'Halloran (19), of Newmarket-on-Fergus, Co Clare, was fatally injured when his car was in collision with a truck which was parked at Killavalley lay-by between Kilbeggan and Tyrellspass on 16th July last.
