CONOR POPEreviews a selection of pizza slicers

Jamie Oliver Pizza Slicer €14.95

HIGHS

Once we got over the mild annoyance of seeing a celebrity chef – even one we quite like – grinning out at us we found this to be quite good. It has a pleasing heft and the wheel is razor-sharp so it made short work of our pizza dough

LOWS

The rubbery, Pac-Man shaped safety guard was a bit fiddly to attach and will inevitably end up never being used yet hanging around in drawers to mystify people in years to come. The whole device is a little on the bulky side and we’re paying more because of the celeb endorsement

VERDICT

Pretty sharp

WMF Pizza Cutter €17.95

HIGHS

This German-engineered cutter is pretty straightforward and does pretty much what it says on the tin and is nice and compact

LOWS

It was the most expensive one we reviewed and even though it doesn’t cost that much more than the competition, we couldn’t justify the higher price, particularly as it seemed to be just a little flimsy. The handle is a little dainty and it’s easy to lose your grip on it if you’ve got anyway big hands.

VERDICT

Too dear

Prestige Pizza Slicer €8.95

HIGHS

This is a simple, no nonsense pizza slicer from a well-known company. While the blade is sharp it’s not going to take your fingertips off. It is nicely weighted but won’t take up a huge amount of space in your drawers and the ridged rubber strip at the base of the handle ensures it won’t slip mid slice. It is also the cheapest of the bunch

LOWS

If we were to be very, very picky we might say that it was just a little too small and the blade a little too blunt

VERDICT

Cheap and functional

Oxo Pizza Wheel €11.95

HIGHS

This is the weightiest cutter we reviewed. The rubber handle gives it a solid grip and the plastic blade means it’s safe to use on non-stick pans, although we can’t think of many times when we’ve put our pizza on a non-stick pan

LOWS

It is nowhere near as sharp as the metal blades and we found ourselves tearing – rather than slicing – our pizza. It is also far too big and takes up way too much space in our cupboard

VERDICT

A little blunt
