The education component of this year's event, which runs from November 15th to 18th, includes screenings of such notable films as Giuseppe Tornatore's Cinema Paradiso, which is on the Leaving Certificate syllabus; Martin Ritt's film of Joihn Le Carre's The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, in which Dublin doubles from Berlin; Peter Brook's film of King Lear, with Paul Scofield, Irene Worth, Jack McGowran and Cyril Cusack; Roberto Benigni's Oscar-winning Life is Beautiful; and Tom Tykwer's exhilarating recent German movie, Run Lola Run, Girl on Film is the theme of international features screening at Galway. They include Anne-Sophie Birot's Girls Can't Swim (France, with Karen Alyx), Lukas Moodysson's Show Me Love (Sweden), and Roberto Bangura's The Girl With Brains in her Feet (Britain). In addition, there will be film-making and animation workshops, tours of TG4 and the Concorde Film studios, and a competition for budding young film critics. For information, call 091-771-726.
