Paris - President Jacques Chirac of France must break his silence and address accusations of corruption levelled against him and his RPR party, political allies and analysts said yesterday.

Mr Chirac has declined all comment on the latest allegations of illegal party financing to have shaken the political elite and is instead concentrating on a crucial EU summit in Nice later this week.
