A 20-year-old Co Sligo man appeared before Galway District Court yesterday in connection with a fatal collision that claimed the life of another young man near Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, on Sunday night.
Alan Flynn, Rooskey, Doocastle, Ballymote, Co Sligo, was arrested by Garda Pat Kilcullen in the early hours of Monday morning not far from the scene of the crash at Doogra, Ballaghaderreen, and was later charged at Ballaghaderreen Garda station with failing to comply with a request to give a blood or urine sample.
He was further charged with taking possession of a Garda patrol car at Doogra, Ballaghaderreen, Co Roscommon, on Sunday night, without the consent of gardaí and with damaging a wiper-control lever in the Garda car on the same occasion. Insp Tony O'Donnell said the accused man's father was present in court and gardaí were not objecting to bail.
Judge Mary Fahy remanded Mr Flynn on his own bail of €1,000 and his father's independent surety of €1,500 to appear before Ballaghaderreen District Court on Thursday.
