A workman was killed when a staircase collapsed on a building site in the centre of Derry yesterday.
The accident occurred at the construction site for a Debenhams store at the Foyleside shopping centre.
The workman, who later died in hospital from chest injuries, fell almost 100 feet when the staircase collapsed shortly before midday. The accident is being investigated by the police and by health and safety officers.
