TWO BROTHERS remain stable in hospital following a shooting in Waterford early yesterday, while two men were being questioned in relation to the incident last night.
Gardaí responded just before 3am after neighbours reported that shots were fired at a house in Dominic’s Place in the city.
The brothers, named locally as Jamie Connolly (30) and Darren Connolly (28), were taken to Waterford Regional Hospital. It is understood the men underwent surgery yesterday morning.
A man aged 30 was arrested at the scene in relation to the shooting, and was being held at Waterford Garda station last night. He can be held for up to 72 hours under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Another man in his 20s was arrested at Waterford Regional in relation to criminal damages at Dominic’s Place. This man can be held for up to 24 hours under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
The scene was preserved yesterday while investigators combed the area. Dominic’s Place, an inner-city street largely populated by elderly residents and families, was cordoned off up to last night.
