Monrovia - Four members of a British television crew detained in Liberia were charged with espionage yesterday and taken to the main prison in the capital.

The four - two Britons, and one each from Sierra Leone and South Africa - were working on a documentary for Channel Four. They face up to 10 years in jail.

The case follows foreign accusations that Liberia is involved in the war in Sierra Leone. Britain and the US have linked Liberia and President Charles Taylor to illegal sales of diamonds mined by rebels from the Revolutionary United Front.
