The British army is to complete the dismantling today of a military observation tower on Derry's walls.

The British army is to complete the dismantling today of a military observation tower on Derry's walls.

The British government confirmed the removal of the tower as part of measures announced in August to redraw the security presence following the IRA declaration that its campaign was over.

Two observation towers overlook the nationalist Bogside from the Masonic site in Derry. The second observation tower is expected to be dismantled by January.
