London - The British government announced its own strategy to combat global warming yesterday, setting targets which go well beyond those commitments it made in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.

"This is by far the most thorough and far-reaching climate change programme produced by any country in the world," the Environment Minister, Mr Michael Meacher, said.
