Breeders' Cup target for Dubawi

Dubawi will try to compensate for yesterday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes defeat in the Breeders' Cup Mile next month.

Dubawi will try to compensate for yesterday's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes defeat in the Breeders' Cup Mile next month.

The Godolphin three-year-old was trying to emulate his sire, the 1999 winner Dubai Millennium, when he lined up in the mile contest at Newmarket.

However, the six-runner contest turned into a highly tactical affair with Dubawi first racing down the centre of the track before switching back to the stands' side rail to join eventual winner Starcraft.

Dubawi's trainer Saeed bin Suroor was disappointed by the colt's three-quarter length defeat but he is now focusing on the Breeders' Cup meeting at Belmont Park on October 29th.

"We were disappointed with the result but the horse has come back very well and sound, healthy and happy," he told the BBC.  "Now we will look towards the Breeders' Cup Mile."

Dubawi could clash again with Starcraft in America as the Luca Cumani-trained horse is also entered in the Grade One race.
