A 17-year-old schoolboy who, because of injuries to his fingers, had to use a dictaphone to do his Junior Certificate examination has been awarded £15,000 damages in Dublin Circuit Civil Court.

Mr John Doherty, counsel for Mr John Smith, of Walkinstown Drive, Drimnagh, Dublin, told the court the boy injured his right index finger while working at weekends for pocket money at Irish Printed Circuits Ltd, Ballymount, Walkinstown.

Mr Doherty asked the Circuit Court president, Mr Justice Smyth, to approve the settlement offer.
