BRITAIN:A two-year-old boy who died after he was found floating in the English Channel was named yesterday as Arun Leon Watkins.

He was discovered in water off Littlehampton, West Sussex, at 6.50pm yesterday.

He and his father, Alan Watkins (50), were reported missing by his Asian mother at her home in south east London on Sunday night.

Mr Watkins's 5ft dinghy was found drifting in the sea at 6.40pm and contained personal items including nappies and a child's armbands.

Medics spent two hours trying to save the boy's life but he died later at Worthing Hospital, West Sussex. An air-and-sea search for Mr Watkins continued yesterday afternoon as mystery surrounded events leading up to the tragedy.

Police said a caravanette registered to Mr Watkins was found last night in Littlehampton, but officers are unclear about his link with the seaside town.

Det Insp Adam Hibbert, of Sussex Police's major crime branch, said the domestic background would be examined as part of the investigation.
