The body of a 27-year-old man reported missing on New Year’s Eve was recovered yesterday in Cork city. The discovery was made in the water near Parliament Bridge in Cork city centre yesterday morning.

Gardaí at Anglesea Street requested the assistance of a team of Naval Service divers after receiving a report that a man was seen in the River Lee on New Year’s Eve.

A major search operation was launched on New Year’s Day with a team of divers.

The man’s body was finally recovered yesterday morning. He has not been publicly named. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.
