Gardaí in Co Monaghan have appealed to public for information to help identify the body of a man who was found dead this afternoon.

The body was discovered in a yard at the back of premises close to a supermarket in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, this afternoon.

Gardaí sealed off an area on New Street after the discovery at 1.45pm.

The man is thought to be in his late fifties or early sixties; and was found fully clothed, lying close to an empty upturned trolley beside a shed.

Gardaí were treating the man's death as suspicious and are awaiting the results of a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
