Police are investigating the possibility that paramilitaries may have been behind a fatal attack on a Co Antrim man over the weekend.

Thomas Hollran (49), a former gravedigger, from Carrickfergus, was badly beaten and left with serious head and face injuries while on his way to visit his sister in the town's Woodburn estate. He later died on Sunday night.

It is believed Mr Hollran was ordered out of his Carrickfergus home late last year by local paramilitaries who accused him of "indecent exposure". A PSNI spokesman last night confirmed paramilitary involvement was one line of inquiry being pursued.
