Today’s sporting programme has been hit by the overnight snow, with the first round of National Hurling League matches badly affected.

The big Division 1 clash at Pearse Park between Galway and Kilkenny was cancelled, with 11 of the 17 scheduled games being called off.

In the National Football League, Leitrim’s home tie against Carlow is off, while the three scheduled Leinster Under-21 football games are also cancelled. Camogie’s National League programme has been scrapped.

Rugby has also been hit with the cancellation of today’s Leinster Schools Senior Cup clash at Donnybrook between Blackrock College and St Michael’s College. The game has been refixed for next Sunday at the same venue, with a 2.30pm start.

All fixtures in the Provincial Towns Cup and Plate competitions have also been called off, with new dates being confirmed early in the week.

Today's Irish Championship Rallycross at Mondello Park has been cancelled on safety grounds, while the point-to-point meeting scheduled for Gorey is off.
