Gardaí in west Cork have launched an investigation into an incident in which an 18-year-old female was assaulted while out walking in Kinsale on Tuesday night.

Gardaí found the teenager in a semi-conscious state at Compass Quay near the town after she rang a friend to say she thought she was being followed. The friend contacted gardaí, and they found the teenager in a semi-conscious state on a green area at Compass Quay at about 10.30pm. She said she had been attacked from behind. She was taken to Cork University Hospital and later discharged.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone with information to contact them at Kinsale on 021-4772302.
