Middlesbrough - A schoolboy who repeatedly stabbed his piano teacher with a carving knife to show that he preferred playing football to learning music was sentenced yesterday to six years in a youth detention centre.

The 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pulled the knife on Ms Christina Thomson-Jones during a music lesson in Ripon, North Yorkshire, Middlesbrough Crown Court heard.

Judge Peter Fox QC described the defendant as a "very dangerous boy".
