Cannabis plants valued at €240,000 were seized by gardai from a grow-house in Carlow today.

Cannabis plants valued at €240,000 were seized by gardai from a grow-house in Carlow today.

Some 300 plants at various stages of growth were discovered in a house at Old Burrin in Carlow town.

Gardai searched the property as part of an ongoing operation into the growing of herbal cannabis.

A technical examination of the scene was underway today and gardai are continuing their enquiries.

In the first nine months of 2012 the value of drug seizures topped €90 million with Garda seizure figures being bolstered by cannabis crops seized from operations.
