Charlotte Brosnan, the stepdaughter of actor Pierce Brosnan, has died from cancer.

Pierce (60) who is filming a spy thriller, November Man, in Eastern Europe, left the set to be with his daughter over the weekend.

In a brief statement he said: “On June 28th my darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life, having succumbed to ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her husband Alex, children Isabella and Lucas and brothers Christopher and Sean.”

“Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity. Our hearts are heavy with the loss of our beautiful dear girl.

“We pray for her and that the cure for this wretched disease will be close at hand soon. We thank everyone for their heartfelt condolences.”

Charlotte (42) was the daughter of Mr Brosnan’s first wife Cassandra, who also died from ovarian cancer in 1991, when she was 41.

The Navan-born actor adopted Charlotte and her brother Christopher in the 1980s after the death of their birth father Dermot Harris. Both children took his surname.

Charlotte was married to the artist Alex Smith and has two children Isabella (15) and Lucas (8).

She is also survived by her step-brothers Sean, Dylan and Paris.

Cassandra Harris died of ovarian cancer in 1991. She lost her mother the same disease.
