Hard shoulder:VOLKSWAGEN plans to introduce a challenger to the Mercedes E-class in 2012, according to reports in the popular German motoring magazine Autobild.
The car, described as an “über-Passat”, will share its platform with the next-generation Audi A6.
According to the reports, the new model line-up is expected to consist of a two-litre TFSI (with 177PS and 211PS power options), a three-litre V-6 producing 300PS, a four-litre V8 with 400PS, a pair of two-litre diesels (150PS and 180PS), and a three-litre, 180PS, TDi.
The new line-up will, according to Autobild magazine, also feature hybrid options and emissions-saving stop-go technology.
