In the latest Tom Cruise movie Minority Report, just now in Irish cinemas, Lexus is the product with the best starring role. It's a futuristic model, of course, because the film is set in 2054 and like all "star cars" it performs amazing feats. Product placement is what it's all about in the movies these days, writes Andrew Hamilton.
Getting the 2054 Lexus into Minority Report was helped by the fact that director Steven Spielberg is a Lexus driver himself.
The Lexus in Minority Report is a high performance two-seater and its muscular design predictably exudes sportiness. The proportions are so unusual that, at first glance, it's not entirely evident which is the front end and which is the rear.
Based on a short story by Philip K. Dick, the film is set in a futuristic judicial system in 2054 in which killers are detected, arrested and convicted before they commit crime. The Lexus is Tom Cruise's automotive partner in the film.
