European car sales jump 9.6%

April new car registrations in Europe jumped 9.6 per cent to 1.42 million vehicles, according to data from European industry association ACEA.

With Easter falling in March, there were two to three additional working days in April, and this helped the majority of markets post growth in new car registrations.

The April increase made up for a 9.5 per cent drop in March and means new car registrations rose 1 per cent in the first four months of this year.

BMW jumped 24.8 per cent, Daimler rose 18 per cent, Volkswagen was up 12 per cent and Fiat rose 7.9 per cent.

Prius tops UK satisfaction pole

The Toyota Prius has gained a second JD Power and Associates award after emerging as the highest scoring individual model in the 2008 UK Customer Satisfaction Index, retaining its 2007 title.

The Prius earned a score of 901 on a 1,000-point scale, with owners reporting high satisfaction with the model's quality and reliability.

The 2008 Customer Satisfaction Index Study was produced from more than 16,000 responses from owners registered between September 2006 and August 2007, representing 28 brands and 100 individual models.
