Dublin 18/€2.2m: Number 14 The Oaks, Carrickmines, Dublin 18, is a Millennium house, built in the year 2000. Large and bright, it has a stylish interior design by Marbella-based Spanish designer Pedro Pena and stylish outdoor garden landscape by Derry-based Dale Skinner. Rose Doyle reports.
Agent Hamilton Osborne King, is quoting a guide of €2.2 million for the large 334 sq m (3,600 sq ft) house which has four bedrooms, three of them en suite and four reception rooms. It goes to auction on March 4th.
The Oaks is in a cul-de-sac of 14 detached redbrick houses. Pedro Pina's interior has a predictable Mediterranean feel to it, with much use made of stone (French limestone, Italian travertine, Spanish polished marble) and timber (French oak, reclaimed pine) in a design which creates light-filled living spaces.
The shades of cream and beige used throughout have less of a Mediterranean feel to them. The almost half-acre of west-facing gardens have been laid out around a number of mature trees.
The atrium-like diningroom has been opened upwards to give it a double-height ceiling and a long window from almost eaves to ground level. It is overlooked by a gallery on the first floor landing The floor is of reclaimed French oak. A couple of steps bring you down to the drawing- room where there is a sandstone fireplace and deep bay window with French doors leading to the rear garden.
A restful room in which three, floor-to-ceiling picture windows overlook the garden, is presently in use as a playroom. It has timber flooring of reclaimed, wide planks and fitted Spanish window blinds which will remain. A study/office to the front of the house has a sandstone fireplace, similar to that in the drawingroom.
The Christians kitchen-cum-breakfastroom has an old French limestone floor which leads, at the breakfast/dining end, to French doors onto an Indian sandstone patio. It has polished granite worktops and a red four-oven Aga which fits into a redbrick niche. There is a an extensive range of wall and floor units and a Belfast sink. Integrated appliances such as a Neff American fridge freezer and dishwasher will be included as part of the sale.
A utility room is cream-painted and has a door leading to a well-stocked herb garden.
The entrance hallway has an Italian travertine stone floor and a guest toilet. The oak staircase leads to the first floor landing which also has a white travertine stone floor and a gallery seating area overlooking both the dining- room and rear garden. It has a larger than usual hot press.
The main bedroom is to the rear and and has an en suite, built-in wardrobes and separate dressingroom. A second en suite bedroom has an attic-style ceiling, floor-to-ceiling window to the front of the house, glass fronted built-in wardrobes and floors and walls in black and white Spanish marble. A third, smaller bedroom has a reclaimed pine floor and built-in wardrobe, and a fourth bedroom has a Spanish marble en suite shower room.
The gardens have gravelled walks, a water feature around the patio with a gentle waterfall and a gazebo with wooden benches.
