Development work on a new shopping centre in Drogheda is to begin later this year following a ruling by An Bord Pleanala to uphold the decision of Drogheda Corporation granting permission for the retail complex and multi-storey car-park on the site of the Old Drogheda Grammar School. One of the conditions of permission is that Mr Pat Doherty's company, Parolen Ltd, will have to reconstruct the original facade of the school before the centre opens for business. The £16 million centre will have a 35,000 sq ft supermarket, to be operated by Superquinn, 39 shops and a 350-space multi-storey car-park. The development will also include 12,00 sq ft of offices.Drogheda's existing shopping centre in West Street was sold last April by Hardwicke Ltd for £4.25 million, almost £2 million more than it paid for it four years ago. The new owners, Melcorpo, is controlled by former estate agent David Lyons.
