Glass blocks, brown leather and fireplaces old and new

Creature comforts are given a twist at Latchford's two-bedroom apartment development. The stone-washed Portofino L-shaped couch, with removable 100 per cent cotton covers, costs €1,200 from Meadows & Byrne (01 2804554, www.meadowsandbyrne.com). The slick gas fire, Feeling by Faber, is available from Hearth and Home (01 6200100, www.hearthandhome.ie) and can use natural or bottled gas. This style is suited to rooms with and without a chimney and costs between €2,000 and €3,000. The glass block wall between the kitchen and dining-cum-livingroom allows light to diffuse into the living space. ADA, in Palmerstown Business Park (01 6230748), carries a wide range of coloured and clear blocks, with prices starting from €5.36 per block ex VAT. A wall similar in style to the one featured will cost in the region of €600.00 to complete, if you do it yourself. ADA can also recommend someone to you to install the blocks for you: it should take a day and cost another €330 per day inclusive of VAT. The showhouse's round diningroom table was custom-made. John Doolin (01 8038507 www.imbuefurniture.com) or Thomas Raven (0402 34503) are both designers whose work should be considered. A hardwood bespoke piece will cost from €3,000 upwards. The cotton velvet Dimanche style chairs can be purchased from Minima, price E€544 each (01 662 7894 www.minima.ie).

The elegant chairs and couch in the drawingroom of number 58 Rathgar Road are bespoke pieces from the Dutch-based John Hutton Ensemble Collection. Expect to pay between €4,000 and €5,000 per chair; the price will include delivery to Ireland. The black Regency-style fireplace was original to the house but similar styles are available at Belle Cheminée (01 872 4122, www.bellecheminee.com) and some architectural salvage outlets. Prices for such pieces start from €5,000 and should include fitting. The Modus Asia tripod floor lamp was purchased from Willie Duggan Lighting, Kilkenny, (056 7722154) price €690

• The bespoke ash kitchen with granite worktops in number 62 St Alban's Road,  were made-to-measure by Andrew Ryan Traditional & Modern Furniture Ltd in Gorey, Co Wexford (055 21585 www.andrewryan.ie ). Prices start from €25,000, ex appliances.

The tile floor is a Chinese multi-colour natural slate from Mediterranean Tiles (01 8352264, €45.00 per sq m. Signs similar to 'To East Bound Trains' - procured for a New Jersey station by a long-time commuter - can be picked up at bric-a-brac fairs such as the Blackberry market. Price is very much determined by condition.

The cooker is a Britannia Range, 1000w wide, with twin electric ovens and six gas burner rings with classic knobs rather than modern dials, price €1,889 from Discount Electrical (01 874 9666/874 3044, www.discountelectrical.ie).

The archway into the diningroom was pared back to the bare red brick and raised to lend height and also to marry the modern kitchen part of the house with the older diningroom. A similar-style printed wallpaper is available from Wigoders' Design Library (01 4500888 www.wigoders.ie) and range in price from €56.00 per roll

A pair of chocolate brown leather couches in Kilmore's livingroom, were purchased at the Sofa Factory (01 4546877), where two-seater leather couches range from €795.00 up to €2,500, while three-seaters range from €995-€4,000, with prices depending on the style of couch and type of leather used. The matching Diva tub chair, also from the Sofa Factory, is €1,100. The leather covered coffee table, price €250.00 and side table, €150.00, are both available from Protea Pine (01 ... 2782081). A similar-style ceramic lamp, €10, is from a selection at Dunnes Stores. Dulux Gardenia is the colour on the walls and the photograph of the 40 Foot is available from Dalkey Arts Ltd (01 2849663).
