She spent most of her childhood in Sudan before moving to Ireland as a teenager. She cites the juxtaposition of both these cultural backgrounds as her inspiration. A graduate of NCAD, she worked for Lainey Keogh and Vera Wang before setting up on her own last October, and Keogh's influence can be seen in the delicacy and subtle colouration of her knits and in the femininity of her approach. Shawgi currently shows her work in The Loft Market in the Powerscourt Centre in Dublin 2, and provides exclusive designs for Myrtle Ivory Bridal Couture. She has been chosen as one of the new exhibitors for Showcase Ireland 2009. This baby doll dress in mint and blue in a Fair Isle stitch with punched lace costs €450.
