Food on the move

Meals on wheels are coming your way as two Dublin restaurateurs plan to open food trucks this summer. Food writer Caroline Byrne has a day job in marketing with KC Peaches, the bakery, deli and wine bar, and she's also going on the road in a converted London ambulance that will sell KC Peaches-style salads and brownies as well as roast beef rolls, barbecued pulled pork and steak tortillas. "I am trying to locate moving eyelashes for a big peachy face for the side of the truck, so that will give you an idea of where we're headed with this," she says.

John Farrell, whose stable of restaurants includes Dillingers, the Butcher Grill and 777, has a more stylish look in mind for the Airstream  caravan he hopes to anchor on a corner of George's Street in Dublin 2 (as this computer generated image shows). Planning for the Airstream was passed by Dublin City Council, but it's currently under appeal to An Bord Pleanala. If permission is granted, Farrell intends to use the van to sell what he describes as "Korean and NYC-style sandwiches, juices and coffees".
